Lisbon metro workers to strike again on September 25

Employees of the Lisbon metro have voted to hold a 24-hour strike on 25 September, the leader of the Fectrans union federation, Anabela Carvalheira, told Lusa, after industrial action forced the company to suspend services between 6.30 and 11am on Wednesday morning.

According to Carvalheira, all the system's stations were closed because of the strike, revealing "a good rate of participation the strike".
Services were expected to back to normal during the rest of the day.

The strike have been called in the wake of the right-of-centre government's tabling legislation toreimpose cuts in public sector salaries from next month. Parliament is expected to approve the legislation on Thursday.

In addition, unions representing metro employees oppose the government's plans to grant the sub-concession for the system's operation.
