Strong winds in the archipelago of Madeira have forced the cancellation of eight flights scheduled for Thursday, according to information provided by ANA, the airports authority.

These eight flights come from various destinations and belong to the airlines TuiFly and Condor Flugdienst.

The strong wind has led the Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) to issue an orange warning until 3pm.

At the airport, the strongest gust registered so far was 108 km/h also according to IPMA data.

The bad weather conditions also affect the sea and the Captaincy of the Port of Funchal has also issued a warning of rough seas until 18:00 Thursday, advising vessels to return to safe havens.

Porto Santo Line, on its website, also informs that it has cancelled Thursday's trips of Lobo Marinho to the island of Porto Santo.

The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation has issued an alert for people not to go on nature walks for the duration of the warning.

The Regional Civil Protection Service has also issued a warning recommending people to close doors and windows, avoid travelling in areas affected by the weather warning, not to walk near degraded buildings and to pay attention to mounted structures (scaffolding, awnings, tents, roofs).
