GNR on Thursday, 14 May, arrested a 44-year-old man in Paredes, in the Porto district, for domestic violence, a few days after he was released after serving time for drug trafficking, the police official said on 18 May.

"With alcoholism problems, the suspect will have assaulted his wife since the beginning of the marriage, in 1996, and even during one of the situations, it was necessary for her to receive hospital treatment", reads the statement.

The detention for domestic violence occurred "taking into account the danger to which the victim was subjected", since during his precarious exits, in the period in which he was in prison, the accused will also have, according to GNR, committed acts of domestic violence.

The suspect was detained on Thursday by the military, a few days after he was released on permanent detention after serving a sentence for drug trafficking.

The Court of Penafiel ordered as coercive measures the "removal from the residence and prohibition of contact with the victim, by any means or form and prohibition on the acquisition or possession of firearms".
