In a statement, the PJ police said that the crime dates back to 12 December 2018 and involved an assault on a 47 year old man with a knife on a public road in the city.

“The assault resulted in serious injuries which would have represented a real danger to life had it not been for the rapid intervention provided by the University Hospital of the Algarve in Faro,” the statement added.

The resulting arrest six months later by the police was as due to “rigorous investigative work” and the detainee, who already had a criminal record relating to violent crimes, is now being held as investigations continue.
