Newspaper Correio da Manhã reported the man was left in a “very serious” condition after being electrocuted as he was cleaning greenhouses on the farm.
Speaking to the newspaper local fire-fighter, Commandant Luís Simões , of the Silves Voluntary Fire-Brigade, who was at the scene, said “the man was cleaning the greenhouses, on the top, when he was literally ‘sucked’ by the high tension cables that run right over the farm. He hit the cables and caused a short-circuit, after which he fell.”
The man, a resident in the area whose identity has not been disclosed, was assisted at the scene by an INEM medical emergency resuscitation vehicle from Albufeira as well as by fire-fighters from Alcantarilha, Silves.
After being stabilised the man was flown by helicopter to Lisbon’s São José Hospital’s Burns Unit.
He is said to have extensive burns all over his body and was in a critical condition.
