The man was arrested on Monday for drug trafficking in Parragil, in the municipality of Loulé.
He had been sent to jail for drug trafficking, but in 2007 he fled the Pinheiro da Cruz Prison and had been using a fake identity ever since.
A 60-year-old woman was also arrested.
