The change in the schedule of Mike Pompeo's visit to the Portuguese capital was confirmed by the US state department on its official website.
After attending the two-day NATO leaders' summit, which ends on Wednesday in London, the head of US diplomacy will travel to Lisbon, Portugal, from 4 to 5 December, where he will meet with the Portuguese prime minister, António Costa, and with the foreign affairs minister, Augusto Santos Silva, according to information provided by the state department.
"The leaders will reaffirm the solid relationship between US-Portugal and will discuss the US and Portuguese cooperation in a wide variety of interests," the source said.
These meetings with António Costa and Augusto Santos Silva should take place on Thursday.
The state department also confirmed that Mike Pompeo will meet in Lisbon with the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The meeting of the head of US diplomacy with Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled for Wednesday night.
After the visit to Portugal, the head of US diplomacy will travel to Morocco on Thursday.
Initially, US diplomacy had announced on 27 November that Mike Pompeo would be in Lisbon on Friday (6 December), after passing through the UK and Morocco.
It is always personally gratifying for me when the United States and Portugal reaffirm the great relationship that exists between these two original NATO Charter Members.

Wish the USA would leave Europe alone. Self interest is the only motive.

All nations look out for their self interest. That is nothing new under the sun.
Americans would prefer that Europeans behave themselves so that American military personnel do not have to die on behalf of Europeans. Baby sitting does get tiresome.
