Portugal's Military Police (PJM) dismantled a network to divert fuel destined for aircraft at Air Force Air Base No. 5 in Monte Real, Leiria, as part of Operation "JETA I", according to a statement

The PJM said that the dismantling of the network was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation in the Department of Criminal Investigation and Action (DIAP) in Lisbon.

"Eight searches were carried out, both at home and non-home, with €47,000 in cash seized as well as weapons, ammunition, computers, mobile phones, fuel and material related to the transport and transfer of the fuel”.

Five people aged between 40 and 56, with no ties to the Armed Forces, were accused of crimes of qualified theft, receipt and possession of prohibited weapons.

This criminal network had been operating since at least mid-2017 and is responsible for the theft of 142,000 litres of fuel, which corresponds to a loss to the State of approximately €92,300.00.
