The action saw around 1500 fuel pumps throughout Portugal run out of fuel yesterday in what has been decreed as an energy crisis.

The government has placed army personnel on standby to replace striking truckers amid chaotic scenes last seen in 2008, when similar action paralysed the country.

Lorry drivers have agreed to uphold minimum services but the strike will go on and as yet, with no end in sight.
