More than 5,000 electric cars by end of year

According to the company that manages the country’s charging points, there should be more than 5,000 electric vehicles in Portugal by the end of this year.

Figures from Portugal's tax authority show that there just over 4,000 electric cars in the country last year, including mopeds, light passenger vehicles, heavy vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles and quadbikes.

In the next few weeks 14 rapid charging stations are to be installed in various cities and on five motorways, including the A1 which links Lisbon and Porto, and the A22 in the Algarve.
