These figures are based on numbers issued by the national Tax Authority released on Monday evening.
Officials said they traced these amounts to a total of just under 59,000 transfers which banks reported by to the taxman.
This figure is slightly down in 2015, when Portuguese sent a total of 8.8 billion euros were wired to offshore tax havens.
