More than 900kg of illegal octopus seized

Over 900 kilos of octopus has been seized by police in a road control operation on the Algarve’s Via do Infante motorway

The haul was seized near Castro Marim by the GNR’s Coastal Control Unit. Of the seized octopus, about 40 kilos was donated to charity for being beneath the minimum 750 grams weight required by law for their capture and commercialisation.

Over 110 kilos were destroyed due to being unfit for consumption. The remaining seized fish will be sold legally at auction.
