According to the data, 2000 was the year in which most vehicles were sold (418,881), followed by 1999 (407,679) and 1998 (374,618).


In the opposite direction, 1984 was the year in which the lease anount of cars were sold (97,577), followed by 2012 (113,435) and 1985 (115,120).


In turn, between 2006 and 2018, approximately 2.3 million motor vehicles were produced in Portugal, with 2018 and 2006 being the years in which more vehicles were produced, with, respectively, 294,366 and 227,325.


The production of passenger cars in Portugal increased by more than 85 percent between 2017 and 2018 to 107,725 units.


In 2018, according to ACAP, there were five vehicle factories in Portugal - Volkswagen Autoeuropa, Peugeot Citroen, Mitsubishi FusoTruck Europe, Toyota Caetano and CaetanoBus -, which together employed 8,232 workers.
