More than fifty firefighters at landfill fire in Chamusca

More than 50 firefighters are fighting a blaze that broke out at dawn on 29 July at a Ribtejo landfill site in Chamusca, Santarém, according to a source from the District Operations and Relief Command (CDOS) from Santarém.

By 7am there were 52 elements on site, supported by 16 vehicles, according to the information available on the civil protection page

According to the Santarém CDOS, the fire "does not raise major concerns" for the authorities, but the area in question is large.

Ribtejo is a company that operates in the Industrial Waste Treatment sector, with waste reception and landfill disposal services.

According to the information available on the website of Ribtejo - Treatment and Valorisation of Waste SA, the company's landfill consists of two deposition cells, Cell 1, currently in operation, and Cell 2, in the licensing phase, which will raise the total deposition capacity to 1,200,000 tons.
