Plans for a €4.3 million ‘interpretational centre’ based on the bridge was unveiled near its pillar in Alcântara.
Described as a touristic and cultural project, Lisbon council said the centre will include a panoramic viewpoint and offer a sensory, physical and intellectual experience.
Construction of the centre is due to start as soon as a developer is found via public tender, and is hoped to be completed by 6 August next year, in time for the iconic bridge’s landmark 50th anniversary.
Tickets to the Pillar 7 Experience centre will cost around €7 per person.
