The number of arrests made on 9 July by the PSP during an operation to combat drug trafficking in Greater Porto rose from 15 to 25, according to data updated at 10:30am by a police source.

The final balance of the operation will be made later, in a police statement.

The action includes the carrying out of 60 house searches in a “vast group” of locations in Greater Porto, namely the neighbourhoods of Viso, Pasteleira and Fonte da Moura, all in the city of Porto, and Vila D'Este, in the neighbouring municipality of Vila Nova of Gaia.

Speaking by telephone to the Lusa agency from Bairro do Viso, the commander of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Porto PSP, Commissioner Rui Mendes, said that the police have already seized "substantial amounts" of narcotics, money and various firearms".

The PSP says that this operation is aimed at "a wide range of individuals who in an organised manner were dedicated to drug trafficking in the Greater Porto area".
