Parliament has its agenda filled in the coming weeks, with discussion of the State Budget for 2021 occupying the agenda from mid-December to February.

After that date, and despite the fact that there have been no talks on the subject, deputies of three parties admitted that the debate will take place in the first months of next year, without letting this "timing" slip too much.

On the part of the Left Bloc, the spring of 2020 is possible.

A source from the PS (socialist) party said it is necessary to finish the budget debate and also wait for the result of the PSD (social democrats) leadership election in January and congress in February.

There are three candidates for the PSD leadership and at least one, Luis Montenegro, is in favor of a referendum on euthanasia, while Rui Rio, the current leader, admitted in 2018 that he personally is in favor of euthanasia.

André Silva, a deputy for the People-Animals-Nature party (PAN), points to the first quarter as a possible debate deadline, recalling that between 2017 and 2018, when the issue of euthanasia was on the agenda, a very broad debate was held, although "naturally it is not exhausted".

"Now is the time for parliament," said the PAN deputy.
