In addition to identifying the animal, the new database will contain information about the owner and data about vaccines.
Registration on the new Pet Information System is mandatory, and anyone who fails to comply with the law risks paying fines.
From 28th of October 2019 all owners of cats, dogs and ferrets are required to have them chipped.
The period within this must be done, depends on species and age.
The registrations will be done in the new database SIAC (Sistema de Identificação de Animais de Companhia).
This is a Pet Information System that integrates the SICAFE and SIRA databases; Unified and simplified pet identification on a single platform available to everyone, from veterinarians to pet owners. This obligation will help prevent animal abandonment and reunite lost or found pets with their owners.
I have spent an hour or more trying to find HOW to register on this new database. I have found plenty of articles explaining the new law, but no actual LINK to the database nor any idea how to pay. Any assistance would be welcome. Thank you.

As usual with everything related to paperwork in Portugal, you can never find clear information on how to actually do what is needed, its a completely lack of competence.

Hi Linda,
Because the veterinarian is obligated to do the chip registration nowadays, I think you need to ask the vet. Good luck!

Hi I got the SIAC from my vet but can you tell me if this needs renewing or is for the duration of time I have my dog?
Could you also let me know if I also have to take this to the Junta de Freguesia in my town and register him there too?
Thank you
