The Judiciary Police (PJ) of Braga detained a 38-year-old woman who pretended to be a psychiatric doctor and who was giving "consultations" at her residence in that city, that police force announced on 20 February.

In a statement, the PJ states that, with that practice, the detainee “endangered the health and life of several psychiatric patients”.

According to the PJ, the woman called herself a psychiatric doctor and carried out consultations of that specialty, managing to “deceive several clients, from whom she obtained large sums of money, taking advantage of their physical and psychological weaknesses”.

After a complaint and a consequent investigation, the PJ arrested on Wednesday, 19 February, the “false psychiatrist” and collected “important and solid evidence, which came to demonstrate the continuation of the criminal activity, which lasted, at least, for about two years”.

Various computer equipment, money, medicines and material related to the criminal activity in question were seized.

The woman, who is said to have been the director of the Psychology and Psychiatry Service of Hospital de Braga, is suspected of committing crimes of qualified fraud and misuse of functions.

She will be present to the competent judicial authority at the Braga Court, for the application of the respective enforcement measures.
