The man of foreign nationality was located and detained in this southern region of the country through the Criminal Information Unit of the PJ, the same source told Lusa.

In a statement, released on 17 June, the PJ explained that the operation aimed to comply with an international arrest warrant issued by the competent judicial authorities in Brazil, which fell on this individual.

The man is "suspected of committing a felony of qualified homicide, punishable by up to 30 years in prison in that country," added the police.

The facts that the man is suspected of date back to April 2019 and “were practiced with the use of a firearm”, can also be read in the statement.

The PJ source contacted by Lusa explained that the suspect was already present at the Évora Court of Appeal and is now "in preventive detention at the Lisbon Prison Establishment", awaiting the further terms of the extradition process.
