On 3 September, La Vuelta will end in the Douro area, to be called "Porto/Matosinhos" with passes through the beaches of Leça and the city of Matosinhos, ending at Avenida Montevideo, near the beach of Homem do Leme, in Porto.

The stage, which will start in Galicia, will be the first of two in Portuguese territory, of a 2020 La Vuelta that will start in the Netherlands.

This will be a return of La Vuelta to Portuguese territory, after having started in Lisbon in 1997, with a connection to the Estoril Autodrome. This was followed by the connection from Évora to Vilamoura, with Portugal's farewell taking place in the third stage, which began in Loulé and ended in Huelva, in Spain.
