The news comes just over a week after the country was added to the UK’s safe travel list but has since passed the threshold seven-day rate of 20 cases per 100,000.
A decision is not expected until Thursday at the earliest and exceeding the figure does not automatically trigger the imposition of quarantine restrictions.
