Portugal has hottest October on record

Portugal has had the hottest October since records began back in 1931, with the average air temperature about 3 degrees above normal.

The Portuguese Met Office also said that October in Portugal was extremely dry and exceptionally hot.

The maximum temperatures were meanwhile also the highest since 1931, and were about 5 degrees higher than normal.

The Met Office also said there were two heat waves at the beginning and the end of October.

At the end of October, all of mainland Portugal was either in a state of severe or extreme drought.
