According to the EU’s statistics office, Eurostat, about 16.5 percent of European youths between the ages of 20 and 34 years old were considered to be NEETs, young people who are not in education, employment or training.

In the context of Portugal alone the figures decrease to 11.9 percent, with more women (12.8 percent) than men (10.9 percent) in that situation.

The countries with the least amount of NEETs were Sweden, Holland, Luxemburg, and Malta, respectively. Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania took the last places of the table.
