Portugal marks World Animal Day

Today [Thursday, 4 October] is World Animal Day, an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

Zoos, associations and charitable organisations throughout Portugal have today staged a series of events to promote animal welfare and wellbeing. Adoption drives have also taken place across the country to find new homes for abandoned animals.
