According to the European Statistical Office, in August, the annual inflation rate stood at 1.0% compared to July, but below that recorded in August 2018 (2.1%).

In the EU, prices also maintained the upward pace of 1.4%, the same as the previous month, but below what was recorded in the same month last year (2.2%).

Portugal was the only Member State to register a negative annual inflation rate in August (-0.1%), followed by Greece (0.1%) and Spain (0.4%).

The highest annual inflation rates were observed in Romania (4.1%), Hungary (3.2%), the Netherlands and Latvia (3.1% each).
