Portugal’s National Statistics Institute said that the country’s economy had a “partial recovery in May compared to the previous month” as a result of deconfinement measures.

The statistical agency noted a “less intense contraction of economic activity in May,” with consumer confidence and economic climate indicators partially recovering.

Portugal decreed a state of emergency on March 18, which was renewed twice and downgraded to a “state of calamity” on May 3, allowing the gradual reactivation of the country’s normal activities.
