According to the European Statistical Office, compared with August 2019, industrial production fell by 7.2 percent in the euro area and 6.2 percent in the EU, with Portugal showing the biggest rise (2.1 percent), in line with Lithuania and followed by Poland (1.2 percent).

In all other Member States, the indicator fell in year-on-year terms, with the largest falls seen in Luxembourg (-15.8 percent), Germany (-11.2 percent) and France (-7.3 percent).

Compared to July, industrial production increased by 0.7 percent in the euro area and 1.0 percent in the EU, with Portugal showing the biggest monthly advance (10.0 percent), followed by Italy (7.7 percent), Hungary and Sweden (6.7 percent each).

The biggest falls were in Ireland (-13.4 percent), Estonia (-2.1 percent) and Luxembourg (-1.2 percent).
