According to the DGS epidemiological situation report, since the beginning of the pandemic until today, there have been 51,569 confirmed cases of infection and 1,738 deaths.

The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region today totals 26,389 cases, 66 more than on Sunday, and about 62.2 percent of cases nationwide.

In percentage terms, in the last 24 hours the increase in the number of confirmed cases was 0.2 percent (from 51,463 to 51,569).

The number of patients reported to have recovered from covid-19 increased in the last 24 hours to 37,111, 127 more, recording a higher number than new cases (106).

As for confirmed cases, the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region leads, with 26,389, followed by the North (18,797, 17 more cases compared to Sunday's bulletin).

The Centro region has 4,465 confirmed infections, plus 10 new cases compared to Sunday, according to the bulletin updated today, which gathers data until midnight on Sunday.

The Algarve totals 892 cases, five more than on Sunday, and the Alentejo rose to 745 confirmed infections (two more).

Madeira has five more cases than on Sunday, now totalling 113 confirmed infections, and zero deaths.

In the Azores, DGS registered more infections than on Sunday, totalling 168 cases of covid-19.

The number of people hospitalised is 390 in the last 24 hours, representing 12 more people than on Sunday.

There are 42 people in intensive care today, one more than on Sunday.

In global terms, there are more people infected in the age group between 40 and 49 years (8,544), followed by the age group between 30 and 39 years (it counts 8,427 cases today, 22 more cases than on Sunday).

The age group between 20 and 29 years old, has totalled 7,892 cases in Portugal since the beginning of the pandemic, 15 more than on Sunday.

In the 50 to 59 age group, there are 12 new cases, an increase from 7,781 to 7,793.

At the age of 80, 5,870 people had confirmed infections, three more than on Sunday.

Covid-19 has already affected 1,869 children in Portugal up to nine years of age and 2,366 between 10 and 19 in Portugal.

Health authorities have 36,481 people under surveillance, 333 more compared to Sunday.

A total of 1,423 people await laboratory results, 124 less than on Sunday.

Data indicate that of the total number of fatalities, 869 are men and 869 are women.

By age group, the highest number of deaths is concentrated in people over 80 years old (1,165), followed by those between 70 and 79 years old (337), between 60 and 69 years old (155) and between 50 and 59 years old (55). There are still 20 deaths registered between 40 and 49 years, four between 30 and 39 and two between 20 and 29 years of age.

The North region continues to record the highest number of deaths (828), followed by the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (606), the Centre (252), Alentejo (22), Algarve (15) and the Azores (15).

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 689,000 deaths and infected more than 18.1 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
