The project “Surf no crowd” (“Surf without crowds”) aims to promote these beaches of the Central Coast as a destination for the sport, promoting “surfing as a lifestyle between family and friends,” said CIM in a statement.

Speaking to Lusa agency, the executive secretary of the CIM of the Coimbra region, Jorge Brito, said that, in the first phase of the initiative, “more than 100 thousand Euros will be invested”, namely in the placement of signs and in the promotion campaign for “Surf no crowd” in order to “position the beaches and natural conditions” of the region nationally and internationally.

The so-called “surf friendly” is part of “a global project to promote a set of tourism products that belong to everyone”, which also covers the historical themes of romanisation and the French invasions, the routes natural resources and cycling networks, among others, he explained.

According to Jorge Brito, for this purpose and in a two-year period ending in April 2020, the CIM, with the support of European funds, invests “more than one and a half million euros to structure integrated tourism products” in the 19 municipalities that make up the Coimbra Region.

“Distinguished by their tranquillity and authenticity, the beaches of the Coimbra Region meet the ideal conditions for surfing, with high quality waves waiting to be surfed by lovers of this sport, who will have in these destinations all the logistical support they need, coupled with an environment that is still not overcrowded” says the note.
