In a publication made on its official Facebook page, the Public Security Police reports that it has been increasing the number of scams related to MB WAY.

PSP spokesman, quartermaster Nuno Carocha, told the Lusa news agency that the police have noticed, in recent days, an increase in complaints related to scams through this platform, with the PSP making this publication preventively.

In the publication, PSP recommends citizens to refuse payment via this method “if they do not understand the functioning of the MB WAY application” and to “never follow instructions from strangers to make payments” using this method.

“If in doubt, ask your bank for information about the operation of MB WAY before using it. Always try to do business in person if you are in the same geographic area as the buyer. Try to receive payments in person or by bank transfer”, are the PSP's advice.

The PSP spokesman said that there is still no data for 2019 on this type of scam.

In a note released in November, the PSP already warned of scams through MB WAY and indicated that in 2018 there were 99 records referring to scams of this kind and, by May 2019, there were already 135 occurrences.
