Portugal's railway manager Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) is to invest €40.5 million in control-command and signalling systems on several sections of the rail network
The contract was awarded to Thales Portugal (from the French group Thales) for the design, supply, assembly and maintenance of a new control-command and signalling system.
The sections where there will be a reinforcement of the control-command and signalling systems are on the Douro line (Caíde-Marco de Canaveses-Régua), on the Beira Alta line (Pampilhosa-Vilar Formoso) and the Sines/Elvas railway connection (Évora - Elvas - Caia).
The railway manager said that this intervention would increase safety, standardise command and control conditions with those existing in the rest of the rail network and improve operating conditions.
Interventions to modernise the National Railway Network are being carried out within the scope of the 2020 Railway Plan programme.
