The company said that the strong winds and heavy rain over the weekend and into Monday meant it saw record production levels with a significant part coming from renewable sources.
“The national production was even 56 percent more than consumption on Sunday and because of the weather conditions at the weekend and on Monday hydro and wind power were able to supply between 60 percent and 70 percent of domestic consumption, the company said.
Up until 15 February, hydro plants provided 38 percent of consumption and wind farms 29 percent and the total renewables was 71 percent, while the export balance was equivalent to 22 percent of domestic consumption in this period.
