Record number of Michelin stars for Portugal

The international Michelin Guide director last night singled out Portugal and Spain for being two of the most gastronomically dynamic destinations in the world.

Michael Ellis made this comment after a record 183 Iberian restaurants were awarded Michelin stars in the 2015 Guide unveiled in Marbella last night. Portugal saw its number of recognised restaurants increase from 12 to 14, its highest number yet. Belcanto in downtown Lisbon joins the Ocean and Vila Joya, both from the Algarve, as being one of a restricted number of venues globally with two stars. São Gabriel in Almancil has meanwhile recovered the star it lost last year, while the Pedro Lemos Restaurant is a new addition to the Red Guide.
