“This matter will have to be analysed in the near future and with the League itself”, said the director general of Health, Graça Freitas,on 21 April.
Asked about the possible return of professional football in June, with games behind closed doors and regular tests for all players, Graça Freitas said that each of these claims “is part of a very complex issue”.
“We have rules and standards that the Directorate-General [for Health] has instituted for the general population and then we have to see how they are applied in practice to avoid whenever there is an increased risk of spreading and contagion of the disease”, she warned.
Professional competitions in Portugal - I Liga and II Liga - remain suspended after 24 of the 34 scheduled matches, as well as the Portuguese Cup, which has Benfica and FC Porto as finalists.
