According to the National Road Safety Authority, fatalities increased 19 percent between 1 January and 31 May compared to the same period of 2014. The Authority, which collates data from the PSP and GNR police forces, also revealed that this year there have been 48,564 accidents on roads, 1,776 more than in 2014. The districts with the highest number of fatalities this year are Lisbon and Aveiro, followed by Oporto (18).
