The festival is being held on the last two weekends of the month with performances by Muse, Bruno Mars, The Killers and Katy Perry among many others.

Roberta Medina, the executive VP of the event said that this year there would be an even bigger Ferris wheel than the one in 2016 and a slide that could be scheduled using an app so people didn’t have to queue.

Also for the first time, there would be a stage dedicated to the digital world with more than 100 digital influencers with 36 hours of puré entertainment.

Another novelty this year is a space with 14 restaurants including some run by top chefs such as Vítor Sobral, Marlene Vieira, Alexandre Silva and Henrique Sá Pessoa, with 380 seats and a ‘wall of fame’, that now has more than 70 hand-prints of the musicians who have performed at Rock in Rio.

On festival days the Cascais and Sintra line trains are going to be free for festival goers, as will the car parks for Fertagus, the train company that connects Setúbal and Lisbon. Lisbon buses will run more services and the Metro will stay open until 03:00.
