An ancient mosaic housed at Faro Museum has been classified an official ‘Treasure of the Algarve’.

The historic, Roman mosaic of the ‘God of the Ocean’ becomes the Algarve’s first official ‘Treasure’ following a decision by the Council of Ministers.

It is the first museum piece south of Évora to receive such a classification, which is the highest in the country.

A stunning Mosaic for sure, but the multi age ruin at Villamora should be taken into care by the Government, aided by the Camera, If you look at google earth, it is ten times the size as the protected area, and is being robbed by people with metal detectors on a regular basis. This site will produce a massive insight into the both the actual, and post Romano/Vandalic occupation of the Algarve.
