Sahara dust settles over southern Portugal

The Portuguese Met Office has today confirmed that large parts of mainland Portugal and Madeira are being affected by dust particles floating over from North Africa.

The air quality is therefore below the usual standard in the Algarve, Alentejo, Greater Lisbon, central Portugal and Madeira.

The Met Office forecast that it would gradually reduce in intensity before disappearing by Thursday.

This type of phenomenon is particularly common in southern parts of Portugal, and is usually witnessed in late spring and early summer.

This occurrence is also confirmed by large amounts of dust settling on cars and balconies.
