In a statement, SEF states that the two foreign nationals are suspected of the crimes of forgery and counterfeiting of thousands of documents and other computer crimes.

According to the security service, the investigation, which took place over the last two years, put an end to "a complex and furtive international network that used the 'darkweb' to sell various types of identification documents, including Portuguese passports, from various European, American and Arab countries".

The operation, called 'Fewas' and carried out in Lisbon, involved Europol and Interpol.
