The Portuguese navy sailing ship Sagres sets sail for a circumnavigation trip on 5 January, with its eyes on Tokyo, where it will be Portugal's home at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Sagres' trip will last more than a year, with a stop in the Japanese capital, where it will be the home of Portugal at the Tokyo2020 Games, just as in Rio2016.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by the minister of the sea, Ricardo Serrão Santos, the minister of defence, João Gomes Cravinho, the chief of staff of the navy, Mendes Calado, and the president of the Portuguese olympic committee, José Manuel Constantino.

This Sagres trip also marks the 500th anniversary of the circumnavigation trip undertaken by Ferdinand Magellan in 1519.
