Seven professional cyclists to facing doping charges

The Portuguese state prosecution is to bring charges against seven professional cyclists for the acquisition, sale and supply of doping substances over a period running from January to August 2013, according to a note on the attorney general’s website..

The statement provides no clues as to either the identity of the seven or which teams they then rode for but did describe the charges as stemming from “the organised supply of doping substances and treatments to professional federated cyclists (…) and their acquisition by the latter.”

The press statement said also that three of those charged acquired, sold and supplied the substances whilst the remaining four defendants were the consumers of substances that are on the list of banned products for sporting practices.
