Several districts of mainland Portugal will be on Friday, 22 November, on yellow warning due to predicted sea turbulence, strong wind and persistent rain, according to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Setubal, Beja and Faro will be under yellow warning from 3pm on Friday and 12am on Saturday because of the strong sea turbulence, with 4 to 5 metre northwest waves expected, especially south of Cape Mondego.

The IPMA also issued a yellow warning to the districts of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Coimbra and Braga because of the forecast of sometimes heavy and persistent rain (between 12am and 12pm on Friday) and strong wind from the south quadrant with gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour in the highlands (between 3am and 3pm on Friday).

The Guarda district will be under yellow warning between 3am and 6pm on Friday due to strong wind forecast from the south quadrant, rolling to the west quadrant, gusting up to 110 kilometres per hour in the highlands.

Under yellow warning will be still the district of Aveiro between 12am and 12pm on Friday because of heavy and persistent rain.

The yellow warning applies to risk situations for certain weather dependent activities.
