Three sculptures of wire mesh, in the shape of large fish, made by the sculptor Carlos de Oliveira Correia, have been placed on the beaches of the municipality of Silves, next to the Vale do Olival, fishermen's beach in Armação de Pêra and Praia Grande de Pêra as warnings of the problem of Plastic in the Oceans. In these structures, beach goers are invited to deposit their plastics, instead of them going to the sea.
The alarming data from the UN warns us of the need to change the paradigm regarding plastic. Plastics in the oceans annually kill more than 1 million birds and marine animals and it is estimated that in 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans.
