Son confirms corpse found in Rio Ave is of missing man

The son of a 63-year-old man from Guimarães, who has disappeared on 8 January, confirmed in a Facebook post that the corpse found on 22 January on the River Ave belongs to his father.

The body was found at 11am in the parish of Barco, Guimarães.

The Judiciary Police was investigating the corpse on the spot, where the missing man's son was also located.

The body was removed at the beginning of the afternoon to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Guimarães, for autopsy.

Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the victim's identity.

A 63-year-old man from Creixomil, Guimarães, has been missing since 8 January. He left the house that night, by car, allegedly to visit a client in Caldas das Taipas, and has never been seen since.

The cell phone has since been found, but the car has not yet been found.

The authorities even carried out searches on the Ave River, but without success. The Judiciary Police continues to investigate the case.
