On 20 June at 12pm, the Loulé Town Hall held a ceremony to unveil the ‘Rua Sir Bobby Robson’ plaque. The street in question, in the Vila Sol complex in the Council of Quarteira, will serve to honour his memory well into the future.
Sir Bobby Robson, who passed away in 2009, left a vast and highly celebrated legacy in the world of football. Beyond playing and managing England’s national football team, Sir Robson also made his mark in Portuguese pitches when he managed both Sporting and Porto football clubs.
On the philanthropic front, Sir Bobby Robson, alongside his wife Lady Elsie, created a Foundation in England tasked with making a contribution towards scientific cancer research. In Portugal, over the course of sixteen years, he has helped to raise over a million Euros for Refúgio Aboim Ascensão, a children’s charity in Faro.
