In total, "more than 18,000 beds" are now available to university students, "in conditions of comfort, quality and safety", said the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES).

According to the Government, the bed increase is the result of agreements established with ‘Movijovem’ and several structures representing hotel units and local accommodation.

The Government reinforce that the capacity of students’ accommodation occurred due to “a strategic cooperation with the tourism sector, allowing the preservation of jobs and the productivity of structures that, given the decrease in tourist demand, face challenges of sustainability”.

Despite the drop on the room prices, caused by the covid-19 crisis, in Lisbon the price for a room can reach €500.

The number and type of beds available is constantly updated at the Student Housing Digital Observatory, an online platform that daily identifies the private offers of accommodation for students.
