The threat of a new strikes, similar to those that occurred during the past school year, was conveyed by the secretary general of the National Teachers Federation (Fenprof), Mario Nogueira, who spoke on behalf of 10 teachers' trade unions at a press conference in Lisbon.

According to Mario Nogueira, if "illegalities and abuses" are confirmed in the teachers' working hours and the Ministry of Education "leaves and does not solve" the problem, the trade unions, including Fenprof and the National Education Federation (FNE), the largest structures, will deliver on October 7 a strike notice, beginning on October 21, coinciding with the period of interim meetings.

According to the Fenprof leader, it is the "defence of the working hours" of teachers, which, by law, are 35 hours per week and not about 50 hours per week, which happens "often" due to meetings and out of hours work, taking away "the ability of teachers to focus on their students".
