Maximum temperatures in Portugal will drop by 8º Celsius from Thursday due to a very cold air mass from Ireland, and strong wind and snowfall are also expected, according to meteorologist Angela Lourenço.

"It should be noted that tomorrow [Thursday] the drop in temperature will not only be sharp, but also accompanied by strong wind. These two factors combined will make it feel colder than what is recorded through the temperatures," she stressed.

According to the specialist, a decrease of 8º is expected in the maximum temperatures and 2º to 4º in the minimum.

"We are talking about highs of the order of 13º to 16º on the coast and 5º to 7º in the interior. The lowest temperature be in Serra da Estrela and Bragança," she said.

Because of bad weather, the IPMA issued a yellow warning for seven districts of the continent (Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon) because of rough seas and an orange warning on Thursday, with waves expected to reach 5 to 7 metres.

The snow, according to IPMA, should fall on the mountains in Gerês, Montemuro, Montesinho, Marão and Estrela.
