Similar very successful Art Prizes are organised on a yearly basis in Hong Kong, Guernsey and Bahrain and Sovereign is pleased to provide this opportunity for students of Algarve Secondary Schools years 10, 11 and 12.
Each Secondary School has been invited to submit five pupils’ artworks for review by a panel of judges who will select, what is in their opinion, the best twenty. The closing date for submissions is 31 January 2017 and these artworks will be exhibited to the public at various locations in the Algarve.
The twenty artworks will then be judged to find the top two and prizes will be awarded to the two artists and their schools at a gala event in May 2017. A third prize will be awarded to the artwork which receives the most votes from the public, both online and directly during the public exhibitions.
The final twenty artworks will be auctioned to the public with the proceeds being divided between the artists and APEXA – (Association to support the exceptional person of the Algarve) a deserving local charity chosen by Sovereign for the 2016/2017 competition. APEXA’s objective is to contribute to the inclusion of its members in the areas of education, training, leisure, the workplace, sports and socially, thus promoting their right to equal opportunities.
Nigel Anteney-Hoare, M.D. of Sovereign – Consultoria Lda said: “We are very excited to be able to have an Algarve Prize. We are working closely with other local businesses that will be sponsoring the events and we hope the Prize will inspire and encourage young artists in the community whilst raising funds for disadvantaged children and young adults in the region”.
